After more than three decades in development, the launch of Inkscape 1.0 has just been announced, the first round version - which is not stable - of this veteran and increasingly popular vector graphics editor, which in a few years has become one of the Professionally designed applications with greater projection of open-source software.
We repeat what was said because the truth is that little and nothing has changed in this time, in which the only thing that has transpired in between is the launch of an RC. The last stable release of the application was Inkscape 0.92 and since then it has rained its own.
Broadly speaking, the main new features of Inkscape 1.0 include "smoother performance, HiDPI support, new and improved live route effects and native application for macOS," according to project developers. They also emphasize improving translations or jumping to GTK3 and revamping the application interface.
Other changes to Inkscape 1.0 include:
- Theme support
- Alignment of the upper left corner
- Rotation and reflection
- Object alignment
- Better HiDPI display support
- PowerStroke width control on pressure sensitive graphics tablet
- Boolean (non-destructive) operation LPE
- New export options like PNG
- Centerline trace
- New live route effect selection dialog
- Faster route operations and route 'deselection'
- Variable font support
- Full review of extensions
- Syntax changes on the command line
- Native macOS support with a signed .dmg file
