The stable version of Firefox Flatpak (Firefox 75) comes to Flathub

If we told you last month that the Firefox Flatpak was close, in the absence of official confirmation of any kind, the stable version of the Mozilla browser is now available on Flathub.

I say that confirmation is missing because at the moment it has not been announced in any of the ordinary Mozilla channels, but a few months ago, in Flathub they cleaned third-party versions to make room for the official one, and now the one that appeared We are also dealing with a new package name that is used to clear any dura.

It should also be remembered that the applications published on Flathub, Flatpak's de facto centralized repository, are quite controlled by those responsible for the site. Which doesn't mean that Mozilla will be listed as the developer publishing the app as it is in Canonical's Snap store since the package comes straight from the Flathub GitHub and they could do the job from there. Although it does not have to be this way either.

What matters is that the stable version of Firefox has landed on Flathub and is now available for installation in any distribution with Flatpak support, which is increasing in number. And beware, when I say stable version, I mean Firefox 75, which in fact will not reach the official stable channel until this Friday. But this is not an important fact either, since those who use Firefox from the Ubuntu PPA, have been using Firefox 75 for days.

The question is, is Flatpak worth installing when the vast majority of distributions keep Firefox up to date? As always, it depends. Those who can benefit most from this alternative are users of distributions such as Debian -which pre-installs the ESR version- and want to have the latest without doing it the traditional way. In this sense, it is good news, although they could also install the browser via Snap.

For the rest, it does not seem a relevant and careful move for KDE Plasma users, because as expected, integration with the desktop leaves something to be desired: I have tried it and in principle, it has surprised me ... until I have activated CSD. With a theme that fits, it looks better, but even with those, it does not finish completely. Flatpak stuff ... and Snap, as we are.
