UbuntuDDE wants to be the perfect combination of Ubuntu LTS and Deepin desktop

ubuntudde

That Ubuntu is the mother of many derivatives that in most cases contribute little to nothing is something well known, however, from time to time we echo one that manages to awaken our attention, such as UbuntuDDE, which in essence combines the well-known Canonical distribution with the Deepin desktop environment, originating from the Chinese distribution Linux Deepin.

Deepin is a desktop environment that stands out for its spectacular visual finish, something that many people would prefer to see more often on the GNU / Linux desktop. Looking at how many of the derivatives of Ubuntu are built, the purpose of UbuntuDDE aims to be quite simple: to offer an Ubuntu system that works with the default Deepin desktop environment. Of course, it is important to note that for now, it is not an official flavor.

The idea is not that it is new either since last year it officially launched Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix, another derivative of the Canonical system that has its strength in offering the popular and balanced Cinnamon by default. The existence of UbuntuDDE could be justified by the fact that Linux Deepin decided to switch to Debian last year, which is why the Chinese distribution may have lost capacity in terms of covering the vast third-party support that Ubuntu has at its disposal. , although the growth of Flathub and Snapcraft may end up diluting this drawback.

Despite not being an official Ubuntu flavor, UbuntuDDE has enlisted the help of Alan Pope and the Ubuntu Budgie and Cinnamon Remix teams. On the other hand, it would be advisable to test UbuntuDDE on a virtual machine or on a non-critical computer, as it is based on the future Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, which will be published as stable on April 23, 2020, if Canonical complies with its plans, which for Part of Mark Shuttleworth's company is usually the usual.

UbuntuDDE 20.04 Beta can be downloaded from the project's official website with links to Google Drive and SourceForge. In case the purpose of the system is not clear, try offering Ubuntu with Deepin pre-installed so that users of said desktop environment do not have to start from a version without a desktop environment and then install and mount it separately.
