After a week of delay due to a bug Canonical announced the arrival of Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (Bionic Beaver).

Initially, Ubuntu 18.04.2 was expected for February 7th but there was a problem that did not allow a successful termination of the boot . The system was blocked on the "Starting Load/Save RF Kill Switch Status ..." line. Users were able to boot with a more dated kernel (linux-image-4.18.0-13) with the shift key when starting the grub.

The problem was solved quickly (both on Ubuntu 18.10 and on 18.04), so Canonical gave the permission and the second point release of Bionic Beaver is finally available.

The developers have introduced major improvements to GNOME Shell and Mutter  with the goal of reducing memory usage, CPU spikes and making animations smoother. Several applications have been updated, on board we find Firefox 65 , Thunderbird 60.4 and LibreOffice 6.0.2 .

Updated Kernel & Graphics Drivers
One of the most interesting news is the arrival of an updated hardware stack (HWE). The Linux kernel and server stack display are derived from Ubuntu 18.10 'Cosmic Cuttlefish'.

The onboard kernel is Ubuntu  Linux 4.18. The same version that we find in Ubuntu 18.10, released last October. The new HWE also updates Xserver, Wayland and Mesa (18.2.x) as well as several drivers. Support for new generation hardware introduced.

HWE
Who installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS in April last year will not receive updates automatically, must proceed by hand. To do this, just give the following command:
sudo apt-get install –install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-18.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-18.04
Instead, of course, who will install the new ISO from scratch will have the new HWE.

If you want to install Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS you can do it by downloading the ISO from the following link:

PS : This point release is also available for Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Kylin and all the various flavors.
