Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric: problems with ATI graphics cards? Here's how to solve them


The new Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric brings with it many new features, among them the final step in Gnome 3 which brings with it many benefits for both performance and stability of the problem is that the project is still "young" and then again with a lot of incompatibilities and the lack of many customization tools.

In fact Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric allows you to easily install Gnome Shell and Gnome Classic ,the new interface proposed the Gnome team which, however, brings many problems with users with ATI graphics cards.
Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric allows the installation of proprietary drivers ATI Catalyst 11.7 which lead to problems overheating and power management and incompatibility with the new Gnome Shell.

sudo apt-get install build-essential cdbs fakeroot dh-make debhelper debconf libstdc++6 dkms libqtgui4 wget execstack libelfg0 dh-modaliases
If we Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric 64Bit you must also ia32-libs to do so from a terminal type:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
Now we can install ATI Catalyst 11.9 Driver on Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric always terminal, type
cd

mkdir catalyst && cd catalyst

wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-11-9-x86.x86_64.run

sh ./ati-driver-installer-11-9-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/oneiric

sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb

sudo aticonfig --initial -f
and restart at the end we will have our new ATI Catalyst 11.9 Driver installed.
