Kodachi: the GNU/Linux distro that focuses on Security

xkodachi-tor

We recently talked about the latest release of Tails. The Linux Kodachi operating system, which is based on Xubuntu 18.04, has a similar purpose. The goal of its developers is to provide its users with the top of security and anonymity. Recommended for anyone who wants to protect their privacy.

Kodachi includes numerous features, including anti-forensic
Online security and privacy in general, despite being quite popular themes, are not easily accessible, especially in an increasingly interconnected world and where social media are the masters. The extremely pervasive nature of modern web applications, combined with a good dose of aggressive marketing, leads internet users to blindly trust their operating system. Kodachi Linux, distributed by Eagle Eye Digital Solutions, an IT company based in Oman, was born with the aim of preserving the privacy and anonymity of computers.

This distribution is a very stable and simple to use live, just start it from USB, sd card or DVD, and we will have an operating system with a VPN, Tor, and DNScrypt service ready to run. The main characteristics regarding online anonymity are the following:
  • all internet connections are secure thanks to VPN and TOR
  • being a live it minimizes the tracks on the computer
  • uses advanced encryption to guarantee the privacy of files, e-mails, and messages
  • self-destruction through a single click
  • possibility of having a persistent memory to save settings and personal files

Let's see a comparison with Tails:

How does it work
Kodachi Linux does not require any configuration or in-depth knowledge of GNU/Linux. All the controls and options needed to protect your privacy are integrated into convenient pre-configured scripts. The only advice is obviously not to proceed with the installation of the distribution, in order to fully enjoy all its features. There is also a tool to evaluate the degree of safety of our Kodachi, complete with explanations on the improvements to be implemented

By default, the system uses DNS-Crypt. For added security, you can change this setting by clicking on the Tor-DNS icon in the DNS Tools folder on the lower dock. There are also scripts to test the speed of each VPN connection and its security. For example, you can check for DNS leaks. Within the dock folders, the position of the icons is sorted by performance and reliability, i.e. those in the top row will be the safest, and so on.

For those wishing to try this distribution, I refer you to the official website, where the relative documentation is also present.
