Nautilus 3.30 arrives (finally) on Ubuntu

ubuntu-news

Nautilus 3.30 arrived on Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo. "What's strange?", You'll be thinking, but it's news. Yes because if you remember well in August I told you about the quarrel (and the related controversy) concerning the binomial Nautilus - Ubuntu.

On board Ubuntu 18.10 (and 18.04) in fact you do not find the latest version of Nautilus , the developers have decided to opt for Nautilus 3.26 . This conservative choice was dictated by the fact that it was preferred to keep the icons on the desktop (a feature that the most recent version of Nautilus does not provide) in order not to bother users less accustomed to news and change.

The app has finally been updated, but not because the developers have changed their mind.  Carlos Soriano of Red Hat worked on a desktop icon extension for GNOME Shell. Desktop Icons , this is the name of the extension, has been added to the " Proposed Archive " of Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo and, in the future, after an appropriate period of testing, it will also arrive in the official repo. The icons on the desktop are therefore preserved: hence the decision to update to the latest version of Nautilus.

The extension for now is not installed by default but it will probably be when Disco Dingo will be released (in April). If you are trying out the Ubuntu 19.04 builds you have to install it by hand.
