Install Virtualbox Guest-Additions in Ubuntu 10.10 Beta, a solution

For some time I'm trying Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat in Virtualbox and following development of next version which Canonical will release within days.

One of things that bothered me is that Guest-Additions, package that among other things allows you to work at a higher resolution in VirtualBox did not work and had to settle for a resolution of 640 × 480, which is very annoying if you want to get Catch of system.

What you normally do to install Guest-Additions in Virtualbox on is to mount CD and run command
  • sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run
With that (in other versions of Linux) was sufficient for complete installation and after a restart I had a good screen resolution in Virtualbox, but in Ubuntu 10.10 seemed to work.

The solution to this minor inconvenience is to install package virtualbox-ose-guest-x11 which is in repositories of Maverick
  • sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-guest-x11
After reboot Ubuntu, you can enjoy Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat with better resolution
