UNITY_8_UBUNTU_16.10

After the release of Ubuntu 16.04 with still aboard Unity 7 , many hoped that the next version of the operating system Canonical would embrace the most modern and innovative Unity 8 along with the display server Mir , relegating their predecessor in a well-deserved retirement.

Unfortunately, the team development has denied the rumors about it during the opening of ' Ubuntu Online Summit which is taking place this week through a series of Google Hangouts , Ubuntu 16.10 will still Unity 7 as a desktop environment by default.

However, all is not lost for those who are fed up of waiting. Unity 8 and Mir will still be available as alternatives sessions from the screen login , allowing everyone to try it.

This move indicates as Canonical is still uncertain about the stability of the new interface developed by them and he did not feel the promise that the project will reach a  mature enough to replace Unity 7  in less than six months. While on a few devices specific as tablets and phones you can weed out bugs and problems of compatibility in each case, the most diverse market PC is a very different fish to fry.

What to expect from Unity 8 Yakkety Yak?
